Dear Winchester Families and Colleagues:
The recent cool, rainy weather has not dampened the spirits of Winchester students and staff members. As we wrap up the last five weeks of school, this is the time of year we celebrate our learning, listen to great performances from our music groups, and catch the last few games/matches of the spring sports season. We wish all of our graduating students the very best and have planned a great send-off for the class of 2019. Please check the district’s calendar of events at http://winchesterps.org/calendar.php to be sure you do not miss anything!
I am very pleased and grateful to announce that Spring Town Meeting approved the 2019-2020 school year budget on 5/13. We appreciate the strong support for our requested budget increase and are busy hiring new and replacement teachers to reduce class size and add electives in grades 6-12. We are thrilled to have two grade 6 classes scheduled to take Mandarin next fall at McCall as part of world language expansion, and we will welcome a very large kindergarten class of over 350 into our five elementary schools in September. For more details on the budget check out the school committee budget page on our website: http://www.winchesterps.org/_FY20%20%20Budget%20Spring%20Town%20Meeting.pdf
We are asking for school committee approval of a contract with a new before and after-school care provider for K-5 (except Lynch) at next week’s school committee meeting. Stay tuned for more information about Kidsborough. This group will also run enrichment sessions on release days, vacation weeks, and in the summer if approved.
The last day of school for this year is Tuesday, 6/18/19. Our 2019-2020 calendar is posted on our website http://www.winchesterps.org/Calendar_19_20_Final_approved_3_5_19.pdf Please note that the first day of school for students is Tuesday, 9/3/19.
Thanks once again for your support for our teachers, staff members, and students.
Judith A. Evans, Ed.D.
