The Winchester School Committee is pleased to announce the official launch of their new website! We hope that this site will be a good resource for the school community, and invite you to visit often for information on WPS goals, initiatives, meeting documents, policies, and special projects including facilities and capital improvements.
Managing COVID-19 with the start of the new school year has been challenging, given the complexity of the state-required protocols and the increase of both positive cases and close contacts. For example, it takes a significant amount of time to manage the approximately 5-25 close contacts identified for every positive COVID-19 case. Our team of school nurses and Winchester Health Department Staff have been working tirelessly to keep our schools open and healthy. We appreciate your cooperation and understanding, especially those of you who have been impacted by quarantine requirements.
Want to help keep our kids healthy and in school?
Sign up for the K-12 WPS COVID-19 Testing Program here. There are two optional components:
Test and Stay: for unvaccinated individuals who have been exposed while in school but are not showing symptoms and meet the criteria
COVID-19 safety checks: Weekly surveillance testing of asymptomatic students and staff (both vaccinated and unvaccinated can participate)
***There is only one consent form for all programs, but you will be able to opt your student out of weekly safety check testing (although we strongly encourage participation). Opt-out information can be found here***
Winchester is among the first districts in the state to roll out Test and Stay, but we still have vendor staffing and supply constraints, so it is only available on a limited basis. We intend to have Test and Stay up and running at all schools by the end of the month, and we appreciate your patience. More details on Weekly Safety Checks will be shared by your school principals when available.
COVID-19 Testing Program Frequently Asked Questions can be found here
Another great way to keep kids in school is for them to be vaccinated if they are eligible. Did you know that vaccinated kids exposed to someone infected with COVID-19 do not need to quarantine if they do not have symptoms? They can go to school and participate in all their normal activities. Don't miss your shot - find a vaccine location here.
Individual PCR Testing: If you are looking for a COVID-19 test now, the Winchester Health Department is still holding weekly testing clinics, including one on Monday, Sept 20, from 2-4 pm with spots available - more details and registration at: winchester.us/testing
